Non-surgical Technology Improves Healing
Low lever laser: Light therapy to accelerate healing.
Back in 2001, there was a National Geographic article in the Space Issue of the magazine, an article that was very enlightening. It described healing light therapy that was bing researched by NASA for healing and therapy in space, and was noted as being used to promote and accelerate healing in pain centers, third degree burn centers, and cancer centers. That therapy was called Cold Laser, or more accurately known as low level laser therapy (LLLT). Even though there was great results being reported with Cold Laser Therapy, it had not yet ben cleared by the FDA for use in the United States, even though it had been in use by other countries for years. Around 2004 that all changed. and the FDA cleared LLLT for use in the USA.
Dr. McMillin, the Tacoma chiropractor at ProActive Spine Care, had been following the progress of LLLT, and after FDA approval, we were one of the first clinics in Washington State to put LLLT to use to help patients feel better and recover faster. Dr. McMillin helped initiate the approval for the use of LLLT in Washington State. We have been using it to help patients achieve great recovery results ever since.
How does it work?
The action of LLLT is that related to biostimulation. Certain wavelengths of light have been shown to stimulate energy production in cells. Increased energy promote faster and better healing. Laser light is able to focused light energy on specific wavelengths of light that promote biosimulation and healing.
Other beneficial effects of LLLT:
Low level laser therapy has also been shown to reduce pain, promote circulation, and improve injury connective tissue repair. Fast pain relief opens the door to active therapy and rehab care that accentuates a more complete and functional recovery.
The other main benefits of LLLT is that it is a painless therapy to administer, and there are few, if any, side effects. It is a natural addition to a chiropractic and conservative care plan, and insurance often helps cover the cost.
Conditions that LLLT can help:
LLLT can help improve soft tissue injuries like sprains and strains, disc injuries, nerve injuries like radiculopathy (pinched or compressed spinal nerves) or carpal tunnel, post-trauma pain, neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain syndromes, plantar fasciitis, and more. We have seen excellent result using LLLT for whiplash, spine pain syndromes, and tough-to-treat chronic nerve pain and nerve weakness conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, and have seen LLLT help reduce the need for risky drug therapies to manage chronic pain.
Cold laser therapy has been used by athletes for years, for third-degree burns, chemotherapy lesions, sports injury recovery, and dental surgical recovery. We are happy to offer this safe and effective modality to enhance your recovery.
